The Fresno Regional Foundation awarded $203,116 in grants to 12 youth organizations serving the San Joaquin Valley Tuesday evening at a reception at the Gazebo Gardens in Fresno.
This year the grant committee focused on two funding priorities: college readiness, access and attendance, and helping children up to age 8 succeed by third grade.
Five organizations received funding for college readiness: Foundation for Fresno County Public Library ($5,000), Central Valley Higher Education Consortium, Community Services Employment Training Inc., Parent Institute for Quality Education Inc. and Reedley College ($25,000 each).
Seven organizations received funding for helping children succeed by third grade: Family Services of Tulare County ($5,000), Burrel Union Elementary School District ($5,000), Boys & Girls Club of the Sequoias ($7,500), Grandma’s House ($15,000), West Fresno Health Care Coalition ($16,046), California Teaching Fellows Foundation ($24,570) and Jumpstart for Young Children, Inc. The funding for the 2014 cycle was made possible by the Bee Endowment Fund and the Dorothy Mitsuoka Fund for Dinuba, Reedley, and Orosi Children.
